Answering your questions
These are some of the regular questions we are asked:
- Why do you use beet pulp in your food?
- Beet pulp is probably one of the most misunderstood ingredients in manufactured dog food. It is considered to be an excellent fibre source which may have slight advantages over other sources because of its benefit to the intestinal bacteria that help maintain colon health. Beet pulp has no colour, flavour or sugar left in when used as a fibre source and when fed correctly is an ingredient that can be beneficial to all pets.
- Why do you not have a low protein food?
- This is a commonly asked question as people are of the perception that high protein equals hyperactivity. This is not proven to be the case. Protein can come from various sources and when coming directly from high quality sources, which we use in our products, can prove very beneficial. Protein helps to support the immune system and the central nervous system, contributes to wound healing, helps build lean muscle and is required for skin and coat health. When foods are lower in protein this can raise the carbohydrates which is a primary source for energy.
- Why do all your products contain chicken fat?
- Chicken fat is considered to be one of the highest quality and most digestible sources of fat available. It is filtered and purified until all the protein molecules are removed and therefore should not provoke any allergic reactions even in dogs that are intolerant to chicken protein sources.
- My dog is elderly what food do you recommend?
- We would highly recommend our Senior/Light which has twice the amount of glucosamine, msm and chondroitin than our adult ranges to help maintain joint health.
- Why do you use meal instead of fresh meat?
- Meals that are meat-based are needed in dry dog foods in order to have the majority of the protein coming from a meat source. We always use a single source meat for our protein source ie, chicken, lamb, salmon.
When you see a high quality meal listed above the grains in a food it ensures that the majority of the protein is coming from meat instead of grains. This may not be true if only fresh meats are listed first because water weighs a lot – meat can contain up to 80% moisture; once this is removed it would make it appear further down the list.
For example a food containing 27% chicken meal will actually contain this amount whereas a food containing 27% fresh chicken would actually be a lot less once the moisture content is removed.
