Feeding Tips/Guide
We provide a feeding guide with each variety of our foods.
Click on the relevant foods on their own pages for the feeding guide and other information about our different varieties.
Remember that feeding guidelines may need to be varied depending on each individual dog.
- Some dogs need more or less food than others and no two dogs are ever the same.
- Anxious or stressed dogs burn off more calories than calm relaxed dogs. Dogs who are working hard will also need more calories to keep up with their lifestyle.
Feeding Tips
- Dogs love routine – feeding your dog at the same time each day will keep him happy.
- Never leave food down – always remove after around 10/15 minutes and do not give anything until the next mealtime. This will prevent your dog becoming a fussy eater or "grazer".
- For fussy eaters try adding warm water to our food to enhance the flavours and make the food extra tasty.
- Never add anything to the food to make your dog eat as this will only encourage them to be fussy.
- Try not to feed too many titbits as these can prevent your dog from feeling ready for their food at mealtimes.
Changing To Simpsons
We recommend that you gradually change from your current brand to Simpsons Premium, following this guide.
| Original Food | Simpsons | |
| Days 1 & 2 | 75% | 25% |
| Days 3 & 4 | 50% | 50% |
| Days 5 & 6 | 25% | 75% |
| Day 7 onwards | - | 100% |
The daily feeding guide amounts may be split into two or more meals depending on your individual dog’s requirements.
If your dog tends to be a fussy eater, reduce the number of treats you give between meals in the first week or so.
If you are changing to Simpsons Premium from a wet food we recommend you moisten our kibble with slightly warm water
