As an intelligent and versatile dog, German Shepherds are highly trainable. With the correct handling, their calm, unflappable nature and loyalty means they will do anything for their family. German Shepherds love exercise. As an extremely active breed, they need somewhere to channel their boundless energy, and will grow restless and sometimes destructive if they don’t have it. This means they need long, daily walks, filled with fun and physical challenges such as ball chasing and games of fetch. If you’re looking for an indoor dog, a German Shepherd probably isn’t for you. As a larger breed that needs a lot of mental stimulation, they are not best suited to living in apartments or small houses that don’t have suitable outdoor space. Although German Shepherds are high maintenance, in the correct environment, they thrive on human companionship and love socialising with different people, animals and other dogs.
