With their kind nature, bubbly personality and small, compact build the beagle is the eighth most popular dog breed in the world. They are generally friendly to other humans and animals that they meet due to being a pack dog, which also means that they love human company and don’t like being alone for long periods of time. Destructive behaviours and barking can occur if they are left home alone for more than a couple of hours.

As they are part of the hound group, they tend to be very determined and focused on anything related to food. If they can sniff out a good smell, this can often cause them to wonder off, so it is vital that they are trained from a young age. They tend to be a stubborn breed that require training from around ten weeks, and they can be known to be difficult to house-train if you do not start as soon as you bring them home.

Exercising
They are a breed that like to be active and require a minimum of two hours exercise daily. Most beagles aren’t hyperactive, but they need to burn off lots of energy to tire them out – this will avoid destructive behaviours and excessive barking when at home. Toys such as balls and Frisbees are the best for this outgoing breed because they love being able to run after them and it is a perfect way to tire them out. Having them well-trained so that they respond to re-call is vital when you are taking them out and about.
Feeding
Beagles are very food orientated and would do anything for food. If your beagle doesn’t suffer from any skin problems or stomach issues, then we would recommend our Rice range. The

Grooming
Beagles are a breed that are relatively low-maintenance on the grooming side. They require brushing around twice a week to keep the coat and skin healthy and also to reduce shedding around the household. One bath a month would suffice to clean out dirt that has got on the coat and to loosen any dead fur. Overall, a Beagle with the right training should be an incredibly happy, loving and outgoing member to a family.
